This is an old book and a bit outdated. But I believe everyone should read it!! Was our whole world genetically engineered? Its that why things in nature relate to mathematics? Are/were our "gods" aliens? I think the evidence says yes! How else could we have built the pyramids or the nasca lines?
I really like Erich Von Daniken and find his theories interesting. This book was his first and since then there have been some significant discoveries. I'd be more interested in reading some of his more recent books.
Although some of the references in the book are a bit dated (such as the "numbers with fifteen digits- something not registered by any computer- on the back cover description) since the book was originally copyrighted in 1968, this book can still give you cause to think about the possibility that the Earth was visited by beings from other civilizations in our distant past.
Chariots of the Gods is still one of my favorites, because I can fondly remember the many lively debates about the possibilty of life on other planets that it spawned among my high school classmates and myself back in the mid-'70's, especially after the movie documentary of the same name was released.

One of the first books I read as a kid that made me wonder about UFO's and all kinds of wonderful mysteries of the unknow.Daiken puts together a compelling case for the possibility of aliens visitors in our ancient past and rises questions about the giant sand paintings in the desert, Easter Island,and ancient cave drawings It's all been said before but this is a good book for younger readers as well as adults who are into UFO's and mysteries of the unknown.
Von Daniken's "theories" of Extraterrestrials visiting Earth in pre/near historic times. It made for fun reading back in the mid '70s.

This is non-fiction. Speculation of Archeological findings. Many questions and puzzles relating to pictoral oddities. Recommended.
Erich von Daniken's Chariots of the Gods is a work of monumental importance--the first book to introduce the shocking theory that ancient Earth had been visited by aliens. This world-famous bestseller has withstood the test of time, inspiring countless books and films, including the author's own popular sequel, The Eyes of the Sphinx. But here is where it all began--von Daniken's startling theories of our earliest encounters with alien worlds, based upon his lifelong studies of ancient ruins, lost cities, potential spaceports, and a myriad of hard scientific facts that point to extraterrestrial intervention in human history. Most incredible of all, however, is von Daniken's theory that we ourselves are the descendants of these galactic pioneers--and the archeological discoveries that prove it... * An alien astronaut preserved in a pyramid
* Thousand-year-old spaceflight navigation charts
* Computer astronomy from Incan and Egyptian ruins
* A map of the land beneath the ice cap of Antarctica
* A giant spaceport discovered in the Andes
Includes remarkable photos that document mankind's first contact with aliens at the dawn of civilization
