What an interesting concept for a novel: heart transplants! This was a very good book. It gave you a list of suspects in the beginning but didn't reveal the right one until the very end. Kept your interest. Would recommend to readers that like a little different theme to murder!

Wow........I had a hard time getting past the growing list of characters in this book...about 60 pages or so......then, i kept changing my mind until the last 8 or 10 pages of the book. Rarely do you see an author drag all the characters suspicions all the way to the final chapter like Sandra Brown did on this one....One of her best....earl h., meldrim, ga.
From the back cover.

A medical miracle gave TV personality Cat Delaney more than a new heart. It gave her a second chance at life. After leaving Hollywood to host a San Antonio TV show spotlighting children with special needs, Cat fights to gain respect as a newscaster. She meets Alex Pierce, an ex-cop turned crime writer, who regards her as a woman, not as a heart patient. When fatal "accidents" begin killing the other heart recipients, Alex may--or may not--be her most important ally. With her new world turning sinister and a mysterious stalker shadowing her every move, Cat is caught in a dark maze of betrayal and secrets..and perhaps sees too late the mask hiding a killer's face.

This book kept me interested from the first page on. Our main character is Cat Delaney, lucky receiver of a donor heart, but not so lucky when she finds out that donors who received hearts on that day are dieing of fatal "accidents" on the anniversary of their surgery. Sandra Brown does a super job of keeping you guessing, right until the very end. She also delves into the subject of whether donor recipients receive more than just an organ. Do they sometimes receive characteristics of their donor as well? When Cat Delaney first receives her heart, she has, literally, a "change of heart" and goes from being a famous TV news personality to running a program for adoptive children. Cat doesn't know her donor's identity, and doesn't want to, until it is much too late. You will enjoy every page and will want to keep reading into the night. Cat Delaney is not even a likeable personality, yet Sandra Brown pulls this story together as easy as pulling a drawstring. This is the first time I have read this author, and I intend to read her more often. Highly recommended.

Famous as a star of the television soap opera Passages, Cat Delaney, experiences both a literal and figurative change of heart after her surgery, abruptly opting to drop her acting career, move to San Antonio, and create a local news segment aimed at matching abandoned children with good adoptive homes. She breaks off an affair with Dr. Dean Spicer, her wealthy cardiologist, and falls madly in love with Alex Pierce, a Houston cop turned mystery writer whose sudden appearance in her life may not be coincidental. When newspaper articles describing murders of other heart transplantees begin appearing in Cat's mailbox, she realizes she's being stalked by a lunatic obsessed with stilling the heart of a loved one who may or may not be her donor. As the anniversary of Cat's transplant nears, the threat of violence grows greater.

From cover:
Cat Delaney is a TV personality who experiences a lifesaving medical miracle, only to be trapped in an ever-tightened web of danger. On its edges lurk sinister shadows and cruel lies. At its center waits an unknown stalker reaching for her with the hands of a killer.
It all begins with Cat's new heart. One of several patients who receive transplants on the same day, Cat doesn't know her donor's identity. She only knows that intead of returning to her glamorous, high-profile career, she feels compelled to change her life.
Leaving Hollywood for San Antonio to host a TV show spotlighting adoptive children with special needs, Cat has reevaluted the women she has been-and the person she needs to be. Where she had embraced ambition, she opts for compassion; where she fought for fame, she begins to value love. In her new role she fights to gain respect as a newscaster and meets Alex Pierce, an ex-cop turned crime writer who regards her as a woman, not a heart patient. When danger strikes, he may-or may not-be her most important ally.
Cat doesn't yet suspect her new world will lead her into a dark maze of love, betrayal, and fear. Or that the people around her are not what they seem. Even more frightening are the fatal "accidents" befalling the other patients who received donor hearts-and the mysterious stalker who now haunts her every move. From the high drama of it's opening to its lst explosive page, CHARADE is a powerhouse of authentic emotions and edge-of-the-seat suspense. Sandra Brown transformed some of today's hottest issues into a masterful novel that will leave you breathless and perhaps, like Cat, with a slightly different view of life.
