This book finishes (?) the saga of compact science started in The Pride of Chanur. These stories are light weight (although as with many cherryh stories, there are deeper subtexts if you care to attend to them -- in this case questions of allegiance, essentialism, and hierarchy).
While I read the entire 5 story series with no breaks (which definitely leads to a little burnout on any author's style) these stories are consistent throughout. If you like the first, you will no doubt like all of them.
