The Champion is the final book in Carla's Roman series for Love Inspired Historical, and I enjoyed it as much as The Gladiator and The Protector. Carla's writing has a way of transporting me to Rome and helping me feel that I am there. The story is compelling and I enjoyed finding out what made Tibi and Alexius tick. Tibi's lack of self-worth and Alexius' battle with his anger are relatable struggles. My only complaint is that I wanted Tibi's father to get his due for treating her so horridly. I am sorry to see the trilogy end, but I'm looking forward to whatever adventure Carla takes her readers on next.

The third book in this series is better than the second, and similar to that of the first in the series. The story captures the reader's attention from the beginning and holds it until the end. My only complaint, thus the 4 stars, is that the hero and heroine's journey to true salvation doesn't occur until much later in the book. After waiting, when salvation finally does occur, the author seems to gloss over it, providing little detail almost as if it's an oversight. However, the romantic tale woven within these pages makes for a delicious read. It's refreshing to read a book with all the elements of a wonderful romance and none of the sexual scenes often found in many romance books.

In these books, Ms. Capshaw gives us a look at a gladiators life. I can't vouch if she is right or wrong but I like her view. I always felt sorry and afraid for them.
Anyway, in The Champion, this gladiator hides a lady of class to protect her from her father who hates her. He eventually ends up rescuing her from her father who found her and brought her home and then beat her so she couldn't stand up.
Neither of these main characters are followers of Jesus but they are very close friends of The Protector and The Guardian, previous books, and they both become saved before the end.
I liked this story. It is full of intrigue, romance, danger, and surprises. This heroine is an archest. Did you know there is archers among the gladiators and in the ring? Its a good story. Glad I found it.
