Great book about the weeks following the crucification and the Resurrection of Jesus. Most of the content of the book is historical with a light love story woven in. Loved the characters' journey to find answers. If you like historical fiction I highly recommend!

Just when you think you have heard every side of the story about the Resurrection of Christ, another perspective is written. This is one of those new perspectives, the story of a young servant woman who is sent to spy on the diciples by Pilate's wife. At the same time, her betrothed is given the assignment to solve the mystery of what has happened to the body of the dead prophet. Separately they investigate the rumors and come into conclusions of their own. An excellent book that relates frequently back to the Scriptures and fills in the blanks of what might have happened in the days immediately following the crucifixion. D.

Enjoyed every moment of this book and can't wait to get to the next in the series. I love the glimpses into what it must have been like in Jerusaleum then and how it must have been under Roman rule. The characters are very interesting.

Oh, yawn. I really wanted so much more from this book. This was my first book by Janette Oke and/or Davis Bunn that I have read. If I had read some of their other books first, I think I would have enjoyed this more and not expected so much.

The positive: the historical research, setting and lifestyles seem well researched. And there were brief paragraphs where I could have hugged the authors and said, "Yes, see, you CAN write!" However, the main story line is one of a million (not one IN a million). The characters are very trite and typical, and I found it no more engaging than your average romance novel.

I was looking for some good historical fiction around this time period, on the level with The Big Fisherman or Anne Rice's Christ books, but basically found this nothing more than tolerable poolside eye-candy.

Wonderful book--takes place starting right after the crucifiction of Christ. The Rabbi they are looking for is Jesus and it brings all of that more to life. I couldn't put the book down and finished it in a day. Looking forward to the next in the series.

The Centurion's Wife is the first book that I have read by either of these two authors. It will not be the last! The story made me feel good. It was uplifting to the spirit. There was danger, intrigue, as well as finally faith and love. I can not hardly wait to get my hands on the other two books in this series!!! I only hope they are as good.

I enjoyed reading this book and it was a well-told story. I do not like the inconsistencies between the Bible story and the author's story. There are things that are off for no reason at all, but that seems to be typical of all authors when they do fiction based on Bible stories.

Interesting historical novel based on the centurion story in the Bible. Very faith filled and descriptive of the joy of early believers and the ruling classes' wonder and cocnern for uprising because of their believes in the "living Jesus" and their faith in God's power. Easy read.

Wow! What an awesome read this book was! Set just after the crucifiction of Jesus Christ through the his ascension into Heaven. This book follows a young woman Leah, neice to Pontias Pilate. She is betrothed (against her will) to a Roman Centurion, Alban of Gaul.
Alban is commanded by Pilate and Herod to find out what has happened to the "prophet" Jesus' body. They believe that the disciples stole it and they want to know if there is any sort of revolt planned. These are the terms that they give to Alban before he can take Leah as wife.
Leah also is commanded by Pilate's wife, Procula, to find out more about the life and death of the Prophet Jesus.
What Leah and Alban find will change their lives forever.

A wonderful look at what could have happened back during the days of the early Christians. This book was a wonderfully edifying read. I would highly recommend it to anyone. It's an especially good read right now as we look forward to the Easter season.

Shalom.

An amazing book. A fiction recount of what it might have been like to live in the time just after Jesus' crucifixion. Brings smiles and tears to your eyes and paints a picture in your mind of what it might have been like for the people involved and surrounding crucifixion of Christ.

I really enjoyed this book. There must be more to come as I didn't feel like things were wrapped up very well...It puts you in the time of Jesus crucifiction and makes you wonder how you would handle these trying times..

I liked this book. It started out a little slow but there was good character development and background. The historical descriptions did a good job putting the story in perspective. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Janette Oke is a favorite author. This is the first book I have read of hers that is about characters in a biblical setting. I enjoyed it just as much as her other books.
