Honestly, I could not get through this entire book. It just didn't hold my interest. The central story is interesting, but it takes too many diversions into sub-plots that I just got lost and gave up. I may try to pick it up again when I finish other books I want to read. Gave it 2 stars.

Cellophane will delight fans of Gabriel Garcia Marquez or Louis de Bernières, but those new to the genre of magical realism will quickly fall in love with this story of a family and country stuck between the traditional the the modern, revolution and the past. Cellophane is also a novel that partners moments of tenderness or comedy with painful tragedy and violence. I found it to be a richly plotted book that managed to be both literary and a page turner. For a story that will pull you in and mesmerize you, it still manages to challenge the reader as well as entertain.
