I really enjoyed this one. It's the first of the Amanda Pepper series about a funny and smart Philadelphia schoolteacher. Not that many mysteries actually make me laugh, but this is one. The characters have some depth, and I especially enjoyed the Philadelphia/Ardmore setting after having a relative living there for a few years.

Returning home from school, Amanda finds a friend has been murdered in her living room. Always in the right place at the right time (later, she happens upon a second body in much the same way), Amanda is up to the task, and ultimately solves the mystery with a few clever deductions. She also conveniently solves the problem of her personal life by falling in love with a charming detective with a Southern accent and a solid background in English Lit, who has been assigned to the case.

First in the series of Philadelphia teacher Amanda Pepper's adventures.

Amanda Pepper, a 30 year old Philadelphia schoolteacher, is chief suspect when a fellow teacher appears on her doorstep and begs to let her stay for a few hours while Amanda is at school. When Amanda gets home her friend is lying on the floor, and she's dead. So what's a teacher to do? Amanda starts by asking questions and soon she has a thing or two to teach the blue-eyed police detective! This is a great series - good mysteries with characters you'd want to meet in real life.

This is the first Amanda Pepper book and in my opinion the best. She has a very funny, sarcastic sense of humor and no love of her prep school's students.

I figured this one out before the end, but believe it's still the start of a great series. Interesting characters with some sass.
Looking forward to book 2.
