After parking the borrowed Buick in a space marked VISITOR, I pulled down the visor mirror and smoothed a couple of strands of red hair into place.
This is the first book in the Witch City Mystery series. Lee Barrett has come home to Salem following the death of her husband. She is interviewing for a reporter job with WICH-TV. Before the interview, she learns that the job has gone to someone else. As she is leaving the station, Lee discovers the body of the woman that hosts the midnight movie and psychic line. Lee becomes a suspect when the station immediately offers her the job as the replacement.
Interesting debut of a series. Lee is a very likeable character. She has experience as a weather announcer and has worked with a home shopping network. Her husband was a NASCAR driver that was killed in an accident in which Lee was driving.
Using Salem as a backdrop during Halloween is excellent. It allows all sorts of creepy elements to shine through the story. We discover secrets about Ariel, the former show host and about Lee as well. Lee's aunt is a great addition to the storyline. I love O'Ryan, the big orange cat that once belonged to Ariel. The staff from the station are diverse. A HUGE secret involving siblings that work there is the true center point of the plot. I must admit that I figured out what was going on quite a bit before it was revealed. It did not distract from the story.
I look forward to reading the next book.

Excellent, well written, no sex, great characters to spend time with. Believable story line, well described settings, not a lot of paranormal, but good descriptions of psychic phenomenon.
I was drawn into the story and hated putting this book down. The only puzzle was why the solution was never seemed to be considered by anyone. For me, the guilty party seemed quite obvious, but maybe I read too many mysteries.

Loved this series, got this from Thrift Books just because I owed a friend some credits and so I found a couple of books on her WL that I thought I would like and so I would read them before I sent them to her and I'm hooked. This is a great story and stayed most of the night to read it. I figured out what was going on and who the killer was fairly soon into the book but that was just because of my experience. Nuff said don't want to spoil the book for anyone else.
Lee (Maralee) loved back to her hometown to interview for a news reporter for the local TV station. When she arrives for interview, she finds the position has already been filled. She stumbles over a body; who as it turns out was the psychic late night host of supernatural movies and took callers during commercials. The station's owner decides to hire Lee to fill Ariel's position.
I did like Lee and how self aware she was. She's been around the block (having loved and lost her NASCAR racing husband in an auto accident- she was the one driving). She also has abilities that have been suppressed/forgotten about, so she fits right in taking calls. I liked the romance with the detective and there is a good opening for book 2.

I really liked this book from the start and overall, I continued to enjoy it BUT figuring out who the killer is is super easy. I figured it out (due to one vital clue that probably should have been placed much later in the book to keep readers guessing)like half way through the book and as I read on and on, the proof just kept piling it up but the lead character did not even consider this scenario. I would have given it four stars had it been about 50 pages shorter and that giveaway clue placed later in the story. I will definitely read the next in this series.

Great beginning to a great series! Likable characters, town, places and situations. I look forward to book 2.
Where to begin about how bad this book was. Is there a rating lower than one? The book in one word BORING!!! It took me 2 weeks to read this book and even after getting 3/4 of the way through, I skipped to the back to see the absurd ending. It usually takes me 1 day to read a book, but it was so bad, I had to force myself to pick it up. Frankly killing the main character would have improved this book. At least it would have given it a reasonable plot. If you are looking for a book with a supernatural flair, stay away from this one.
