A Catskill Eagle refers to the bird that flys higher than any other while looking for his prey.
That is exactly what Spenser does here. Usually he is law abiding and moral.
But someone has the woman he loves and she is unable to come back to him.
Together with Hawk, all rules go out the window while he stops at nothing to get her back.
Together they commit jailbreak, murder and a helluva lot more violence than you find in the average Spenser.
Filled with plenty of wisecracks and great chemistry between he and Hawk , this is a
riveting, page turner.
As far as characters that have a series of books, this may be my all time favorite. In between a great story, Parker puts in so much humor that I constantly find myself actually laughing out loud !

I really enjoyed this book-this is the typical Spenser novel with action and lots of great quips by Hawk. The story opens with Susan sending Spenser a letter requesting help leaving the man she's having an affair with. Of course, Spenser and Hswk go to her rescue and the fun begins. I highly recommend this book to those readers old enough to remember the Spenser TV series (oops, guess I've betrayed my age).

A great novel. One of the older "Spenser" stories but if you've read any of the newer ones, you'll want to go back and read them all. Parker doesn't disappoint with the action and suspense.

CATSKILL's plot and delivery changed style considerably from previous novels in the Spenser series, giving the appearance that the classic detective novel's solitary-private-eye may have walked off lonely street. Here he sang heated duets of a different kind of wounded blues (slowly being healed). Spenser and Hawk were a team throughout this plot. They committed and sacrificed nearly everything, to rescue Susan, both body and soul. This installment in the Spenser series is about the quest. It is about the things around us that define who we are and how we respond when we are needed. And in that, it succeeds far beyond almost anything else you will read in this genre.

Classic Parker, classic Spenser. Complicated relationships between the characters makes this not the best place to start in the series, but a must read for any fan.

The usual light read from Robert B. Parker. A very early Spenser book.

This book and Valediction, the one before Catskill Eagle, are the best I've read of this series. Parker is always great--funny, suspenseful, tightly written, with literary references peppered throughout.

A Catskill Eagle (Spenser, Bk 12)
A Catskill Eagle - Spenser, Bk 12
Author: Robert B. Parker
In the detective business, Spenser sometimes has to bend the law. Other times, to break it. But he lives by his own inviolate rules. And he loves just one woman -- even though she is the one woman he's just lost. â So when Susan's desperate letter arrives, Spenser doesn't think twice. His best friend, Hawk, faces a life sentence. And Susan has gotten herself into even bigger trouble. Now Spenser has to free them both ... even if it means breaking his own rules to do it.

Good Spenser novel, albeit a little outdated.

This is the 12th Spenser. Hawk plays a major role in this book, which is always fun! This book is also longer than his previous books ... 368 pages of nail-biting action, wise-cracking remarks & cynical humor ... Spenser at his best!

The only Spenser book I've read that I didn't much like. Suddenly, Susan is a mindless automaton who does stupid things and is a willing slave to a killer. It just doesn't make sense. Spenser and Hawk are consistent, but Susan is not the Susan we've come to know and admire.

Susan has gone off with another man and now changed her mind and wants out; Spenser and Hawk have to rescue her. Susan's ambivalence about the whole thing really hampers the book. She's not sure who she wants to be with. Several people end up dead anyway. Close, but no cigar.

Tight writing, no wasted words, loads of violence, and interesting characters, Parker will be your cup of tea. Another great Spenser novel.
