I gave this 2.5 stars. McCaffrey in colloboration with Scarborough seems to equal cutesy, which is not my thing at all. Cat lovers I'm sure will go gaga over this story of Barque cats, specially bred for life in space ships, but though I didn't quite get there, I found this almost gag-me-with-a-spoon. Pregnant high-bred Chessie is kidnapped and when she gives birth, one of her kittens develops a telepathic bond with the young son of her kidnapper. Later on in the book the story development of a hyper-intelligent breed of cats with their own agenda of galactic domination caused me to roll my eyes, but it was amusing enough to make me finish the story. I don't think I'll be reading the sequel, though, unless it happened to be close by and there was nothing else within reach.

My husband is a huge Anne McCaffrey fan (and we are both cat lovers) so I grabbed it for him when I saw it in the "new" section at our local library. He started reading it and suggested that I read it. I am not a sci-fi reader but he convinced me to give it a try. The characters are not only people, but the reader hears from several cats as well. POV changes from human to cat and does make it interesting. My only negative: A few things (concerning cats) were explained by the authors in a way that made it seem that they thought their readers would know nothing about cats; this I thought was kind of funny, seeing that more than likely people that like & know cats are the ones to read this book. I think that cat lovers should "pounce" at this book, as I did!

Not really what I expected. I hope this was written with juveniles in mind as it is a very easy read with very little suspense. I had to make myself finish the book as it did not keep me enthused.
