This is the second in the series. I liked it better than the first, but found it a little disconcerting that all the murder victims were constantly beating up their families in this series. It gives the impression that upstate NY is not a very likable place. Maybe the next one will have a victim that's evil in a different way.

Though this is another fun entry into the life of the curmudgeonly Dr. McKenzie, and the "how" of the murder was nicely tied up, the "why" of the murder was not addressed! In fact, according to the story-line, the murderer has every reason to keep the victim alive! I had to go back and re-read the ending twice to see what I had missed. I hadn't missed anything...the motive is not given.
It seems Ms. Bishop just got tired at the end, and needed to find a way to finish the book quickly....
