I devoured Nancy Drew books when I was a kid. A friend suggested I try the Nancy Clue books, and I'm so glad she did: they are hilarious and engaging! They satirize both the Nancy Drew and Cherry Ames books, and do it incredibly well. So many of the things that I associated with Nancy Drew, from her unshakeable nature, ability to stay perfectly coiffed during any mishap, old-fashioned language, and incredible outfits, are here. I'd never read any Cherry Ames books, but a friend lent me a couple, and I can say that the parody of them is spot-on, too. The stories in these books are intriguing, but what makes them the most fun is the parody and seeing these characters in a more modern way. This book is the second in the series, and I really enjoyed seeing how the relationships evolved and grew.

By all indications, I should love this book. I read a lot of Nancy Drew as a kid, I enjoy spoofs, I like humorous mysteries, etc. The reviews on it are excellent.

I didn't.

I just couldn't get into it.

It wasn't bad, per se, it was just...boring. I have a vague interest in knowing the outcome of the "mystery" or at least why Nancy Clue killed someone...but not enough to slog through the rest of the book.

While I remember somewhat relationships showing up in Nancy Drew, I never noticed the clothes--while I know this one will over-emphasize anything---it's pulling out a part of the original that rings no bells for me, which makes it trying and not amusing.

It's just...eh.

i found this at a bookstore and since it was about my lesbian peeps, i decided to pick it up. i didnt have any plans to read it soon, but came a cross it recently and figured id give it a shot.

OMG i LOVED LOVED LOVED it!!! i read all of the nancy drew books when i was younger, and this is such a hilarious take on them. everything is the same, but a little twisted. names of characters are changed but not enough to figure out whos who. i loved how she even kept Hannah, nancy drew's housekeeper.

cherry is the main character, and she recently met nancy clue. (they began dating in the previous book). nancy, cherry and a group of their friends are on a rod trip, racing home to rescue hannah, whos been arrested and is in jail for killing Carson CLue, nancy's dad. the thing is, nancy is the one who killed him though we dont find out why until the end of the story.

i usually pass my books on, but this was so great im keeping it and ive requested the other books in the series!
