This delightful book is a collection of twelve short stories by a dozen NH authors, in a variety of genres. Cowboy by Jesse Salisbury is the story of a Mid-westerner drawn to New England. We find that there is more than it seems behind this man and the people around him when tragedy strikes this small town. Mark Marony's That In-Betwee...  more » is a haunting story of the inevitable. In it, we meet Charlie Newman, a ninety-two year old man laying on his deathbed in his final days. Sarah, his caretaker, treats Charlie as well as she can and finds that she can help him to answer a single mystery about his life which has haunted Charlie most of his days. The dance of life - the courting ritual. We find it all over the world. El Guapo is getting older, but can this dancer find the right dance to win over the heart of his beloved, or will a young upshot with his youthful moves steal the day? Find out in El Guapo by Timothy Butts. In these days of hardship, many people will identify with Chubby and Buddy and the tomato factory in Boston about to close the doors. They need to decide what to do, even if they lose more than they bargained for in The Tomato factory by Jeff Umbro. Also from Jesse Salisbury comes a story of a woman, Bethany, seeking shelter from her abusive husband who begins to stalk her. She comes to stay with Sophie, but she brings along a tarantula named Hermione despite Sophie's fear of spiders. Sophie deals with her fears while Bethany deals with the very real danger of her abusive spouse, before an explosive end. What if you woke up unable to breathe? What would you do? That is exactly what happens to a young woman in this story by Samantha Reilly. The lead character draws to her mother to help her in these challenging times, and how tells how she deals with the disorder, the hospitals, and people she encounters. This story will leave you Breathless. This is the follow-up to Trash Talking from Rossetti Folini from the original Carved in Granite. In it, we continue to follow the story of Roy, a recent transplant to Chester, NH as he tries and fails to fit into life in The Granite State. In the original story, Roy was on the wrong side of the law, How will he react when it is Jake Landon, a local selectman, who is found on the wrong side of the law? Accomplished local author Nikki Andrews is at it again with a tear-jerking story of Frank, an aging man looking back at his life as The Egg Man. His heart was always in the right place, but what will that mean to a man approaching the end of his life? Part of his life now is Luanda, who helps to take care of Frank. She may be able to help Frank remember who he really is, despite the fog of years. To break up the drama with comedy, there is Bitte Trouble by Peterborough's Andreas Lawrence and Nolan Truell. After the human race is nearly rendered extinct, how can things get worse? Easily the darkest story in the collection, yet one of the most engrossing, is Vows Broken, by David Stetham. This is the story of abuse over the course of several years, at the hands of a demented man toward his wife. She keeps coming back to him as she builds her courage to leave him, but he is not going to let her leave that easily. Read this story with it's exciting climax in Carved in Granite II. It would seem nothing could be simpler than a father and his adult daughter sharing a glass of wine in the kitchen. We find out more about their relationship as they find out more about each other in Keepsakes in the Kitchen by the superb NH author Cheryl Sommese. What was your favorite job ever? Hear an account of a man as he tells about his favorite job ever, at Howard L. Smith's Hardware Store by Jonathan Wood.
