I am a huge SITC fan! I love Carrie. I read the reviews before I read the book so was not expecting much from the book but I must say I was surprised. It is a YA book and I can honestly say I am glad I am way finished with my high school years. It was defintely a reminder that I never want to do that again!!
Having said that,I liked the book. I could picture a young Carrie -- the funky clothes, the way she thought, smoking, drinking singapore slings instead of cosmos, etc. I was surprised by her attitude and feelings toward Sebastian but I think in the end she came round and that relationship defined her future attitude toward guys including why she had committment issues. And then Walt...wow, a whole other relationship that helped with the portrayal of future friendships on the TV show, SITC. So was she at times wimpy in the book? Yeah, who wasn't in high school?
But the ending in the book???? How could you not like the last page??? She got a real dose of NYC and then we got to see how she .... oops can't spoil the ending.(even though it was different from SITC) still a cute ending nonetheless!)
Overall it's a book, it's fiction, it's entertainment. Take it for that! I did and was happy with it.

I enjoyed this read so much that even at the end I had a smile on my face.

I started this book with really high hopes. I felt really let down at the end. It wasn't the book I was expecting. If I had come into it with lower expectations, I would have enjoyed it, but the only contact with the other characters took place in the very last paragraph. I guess I was hoping for more of Carrie's exploration and discovery of New York, and how she meet her pals.

This book started out full throttle, i couldn't put it down...but as it progressed, i liked the underdeveloped characters less and less. If you are a Sex and the City fan, it is hard to imagine the future Carrie Bradshaw as the Carrie Bradshaw in this book...in the end, it was just okay for me.

Although I am a big fan of "Sex and the City" and Candace Bushnell I did not think this was a great book. Truly, it is a book for teens. The Carrie Diaries center around Carrie's high school years - her friendships, her boyfriend, her family and her highs/lows. I never got the vibe that the Carrie character was the same Carrie depicted in Sex and the City. The storyline was very juvenile and I think it was insulting to the character of Carrie to have her so weak and boring. Frankly, this story never got off the ground.

Reading this took me back to my own high school years. It's not the best book I've ever read, but it was pretty enjoyable. Looking back I kind of miss all the drama and this book brings back fond memories of being a teenager.
I have read many of Candace Bushnell's other books and LOVED them. I thought this would be fantastic also. I just liked it. Maybe we all do not really need to know that much about Carrie's early life.
I did not plan to read this book. I am a big SITC fan but the reviews here were mostly bad and I didnt really want to read another Young Adult book. But when I saw it used I picked it up and I planned to just read the first and last few chapters and then post it here. Well, I read a few pages, the backed up a few more chapters, then a few more, then I went ahead and started at the beginning. It was cute enough in a YA way, I enjoyed it. I could picture Sarah Jessica Parker as this teenager so easily, (but then I remember Square Pegs - do I date myself???). Anyway maybe my expectations were low - but I enjoyed this book.
I have never watched Sex In The City so I wasn't sure what to expect, but did I ever enjoy this book & I can't wait to read the rest of Carrie's story. I have already ordered the other two books, lol.
For those of you that are Sex in the City Fans, this is a must read. Easy, fun and Sex in the City will all make sense at the very end.
Enjoyed this book as it stayed true to Carrie's character and the way she talks and acts throughout the series.
Funny easy reader about teenage drama and the lessons to be learned.
Read this for book club, I really liked it. I am a huge fan of "Sex in the City" series and this added a sense of history. I have added the sequel to my wish list and also other books by Bushnell. Great summer book to read at the beach or pool.

THE CARRIE DIARIES follows Carrie Bradshaw pre-Sex and the City.
Seventeen-year-old Carrie is just beginning her senior year in high school, and like all girls she falls for the gorgeous bad boy, Sebastian Kydd. Before long, Carrie and Sebastian are a couple - and the envy of the popular girls, who harass Carrie and make her life harder than it needs to be.
Besides Carrie's hot-and-cold relationship with Sebastian, she also has to deal with a huge secret her best friend, Walt, is keeping, and a betrayal that threatens to ruin a lifelong friendship in an instant.
Fans of Sex and the City will enjoy this novel, as it gives a lot of information on Carrie's family life and what inspired her to become a writer. It also recounts how it is that Carrie arrived in New York all those years ago, which ties it in nicely with both Candace Bushnell's adult novels and the show.
