The Norton Edition of Cane is an excellent introduction to this author who was a writer in the Harlem group of writers in the 1920's. Jean Toomer's vision of a colorblind America is contrasted by his short vignette's of life in the South in the 1920's I recommend this book to any one who is interested in black studies.
