Diana Savarol is a foreigner from the West Indies who has been sent by her father to England to her distant relatives. These being her "Aunt" Lucia and cousin Lyonel/Lyon.
Lyon has been recently disappointed in love by a faithless woman and is now a proclaimed woman-hater. Diana goads him constantly, and he shocks her with outrageous innuendos, but he insists he really wants nothing to do with her.
During the course of their adventures they encounter a mysterious sea captain, Diana's family (which brings with it an excellent mystery), and great sex.
Catherine Coulter has a way of making more of her secondary characters and I get a kick out of Aunt Lucia and her secret. You'll have to read and find out. She'll have a special place in your heart.
I enjoy romance novels that don't just take place in one geographical setting and this one takes you from England, to the sea, to the West Indies. It has good little tidbits of historical info, but it's really the riotous banter that goes on between Lyon and Diana that keeps me hooked. I can pick it up anytime and not be bored!

Diana Savarol vowed to stay away from her cousin, the rakish and hot-tempered Lyonel Ashton, during her visit to London-for she knew that Lyonel, the sixth Earl of Saint Leven, was a rogue who used women as playthings, and she would not be one of them. But she was homesick for the West Indies and with only Lyonel to escort her on a perilous journey home, Diana's destiny became one with his as they braved the war-torn seas on a journey that would take them from glittering London to the tropical shores of Calypso Island. And, as the fires of that battle raged around them, they found a love that burned more fiercely than any other. Diana surrendered to a passion within her that she could no longer deny.

An historical romance with suspense, and rather explicit sex.

The second book in Catherine Coulter's Magic series is a fiery romance that is as superb as Midsummer Magic. Moving from Regency England to the exotic West Indies, Calypso Magic is the story of a hot-tempered earl and his witty, very desirable, island-born cousin--and the undying love and relentless passion that binds them together through jealousy, mystery, murder and intrigue.

DEAR READER: CALYPSO MAGIC,THE 2ND NOVEL IN HER MAGIC TRILOGY, WAS PUBLISHED IN 1988. I HAVEN'T DONE ANY REWRITING; THE NOVEL'S JUST WEARING BEAUTIFUL NEW CLOTHES.

IT IS 1813 IN LONDON, THE EARL OF SAINT LEVEN, LYONEL ASHTON, DOESN`T LIKE WOMEN, AND HE`S GOT EVERY REASON NOT TO. BUT FATE, IN THE GUISE OF AUNT LUCIA, INTERVENES. SHE PRESENTS HIM WITH DIANA SAVAROL, A YOUNG LADY NEWLY ARRIVED FROM HER FAMILY`S CARIBBEAN ISLAND AND VERY UNHAPPY AT BEING FORCED INTO FRIGID ENGLAND AND TOSSED HEADLONG INTO THE MARRIAGE MARKET.

THESE TWO VERY STRONG WILLED INDIVIDUALS EYE EACH OTHER, THEN GO FOR GOLD IN AN INSULT COMPETITION. THE EARL CALLS DIANA AN EAVESDROPPER; SHE SAYS HE LOOKS PALE AND UNHEALTHY. HE SAYS SHE HAS BIG FEET; SHE SAYS HE SUFFERS FROM `CHARLOTTE`S DISEASE.`

WHEN DIANA INSISTS UPON RETURNING HOME, SHE DOESN`T EXPECT TO HAVE THE EARL SHARE HER CABIN ABOARD SHIP. THEN THERE`S THE SHIP`S CAPTAIN, RAFAEL CARSTAIRS, WHO ISN`T JUST ANY SHIP CAPTAIN SAILING THE SEVEN SEAS. AND ON SAVAROL ISLAND, THERE`S A MYSTERY TO SOLVE AND WRONGS TO RIGHT.
