The book description says that Callings is a passionate look at the search for authenticity and I was lucky enough to listen to this book as read by the author, and I have to say that Gregg Levoy speaks with passion. I have listened some audiobooks where I thought that someone besides the author should have read the book. In this case I am so glad that Gregg was the narrator. He spoke from experience and from his heart. His voice was very pleasing to listen to, yet I think he could easily be a great narrator for adventure stories. I could tell he was excited about the subject and full of insight and wisdom. I enjoyed the book tremendously. And I searched but could not find this book available as a CD, only as cassette tapes.

In this book the author directs you to look at your inner thoughts, explore your dreams, and learn to listen to the small inner voice that is trying to tell you something. Sometimes we manage to still that inner voice only to have the voice get louder and more insistent.
Following your Calling is not about blindly quitting a job but about making inner plans to discover what your passion is.
Is it easy to respond to our Calling? In many cases it is not easy. Besides leaving behind our current job, we may have to leave behind friends, security, our family, and, perhaps, our marriages. Sometimes we just arent ready.
Gregg addresses the issues of when to respond to the Calling. For some people the time is not right. There is one example in the book where a man waited 25 years to follow his dream to be an artist. Was that time wasted? No, it was not. In the meantime he learned how to be a businessman, deal with people and refine his skills.
Sometimes a Calling is just there to wake up us to new possibilities that we did not know existed. We have to look at your inner thoughts, our dreams, and the things that are happening around us.
The book is filled with real life stories of people who followed there Calling and those that did not.

Here are some great quotes from the book:
One part of you wants to awaken, one part wants to sleep. One part wants to follow the call, the other wants to run like hell. Courage is joined at the hip with anxiety.

We often decline the invitation of our callings because we feel inadequate to the task, but the opposite is also true: Were afraid of our own power. Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, says author Marianne Williamson. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. But our playing small doesnt serve the world. Theres nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people wont feel insecure around you.

"If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you."

"Callings" is about the search for following your "true" callings. It is extremely insightful, intelligent and fascinating, examining the callinns one may receive in a lifetime and how to handle them, whether personal or professional.
