I liked this story a lot because of the way it was told and because of the main characters. This is about a pair of brothers. One is a religious man who runs a group. In this story, he is a corpse and his brother takes on his persona in some crazy attempt to bring his brother back to life by sacrificing others. He did not go out and murder people, however. He used his knowledge of herbs and wildflowers and plants to convince people who were living in pain and misery that he would put them out of their misery painlessly. Then, he mutilates them so it looks like they've been murdered. He has a very good racket going until Inspector Micallef clues in on him and begins to hunt him down. It leads to some bad things happening to her, but in the end, she comes out on top and finds a weak link in her department. I'll recommend this to my book club. My one negative is he poses as a religious Christian. Guess it's because you can make Christians be the bad guy and not be hunted down by a crazy person with a sword.

This is a new to me author. Quite the "page turner", expertly narrated by Bernadette Dunne, it had a clever and chilling story line. The characters are very well written and developed, and you can feel the icy Canadian winter weather seeping into your bones. I've already placed book two on my Wish List. Highly recommend.
