This was a new author to me, but well worth the risk. Excellent book - so good that I am going to check out some of her other work. Best to read "A Darker Justice" first, but both books stand well on their own.

Excellent mystery/thriller featuring half-Cherokee lawyer Mary Crow. Set in the southern Appalachians. Excellent local color and fast-paced action.
