This is volume 1 of a two-part collection from Mirror Press.

THE KEEPER OF THE WESTERN DOOR - Carla Kelly. Mary Blue Eye had accompanied Victoria Masterson to meet her husband at a Wyoming fort. Mary was to stay with her friend for 6 months; however, because she was an Indian, the people of the fort and Victoria treated Mary as a servant.

Two of the wives of senior officers at a fort decided for each of the women to sew a calico dress, wear it to a dance and then send all of the dresses (15) to the poor people in Chicago (there were thousands of newly poor people in Chicago after the Chicago Fire in 1871).

Mary had considerably more patience with her childhood friend than I would have had. This is the first time I'd ever heard of a Calico Ball in historical literature.

A CONVENIENT ARRANGEMENT - Sarah M Eden. Perhaps there just weren't enough pages for the author to give enough substance to this story. I thought this was the weakest of the three tales.

After sending for a mail-order wife, Patrick Quinn gets a pint-sized woman who is always upbeat. Mirabelle Smith was an orphan and looks at having a home as a gift.

ISABELLA'S CALICO GROOM - Kristin Holt. Business has not been good for dentist Dr. Henry Merritt since a woman dentist arrived in town. Although he has tried to stay away from her, they are placed on the same committee that is planning a celebration for Wyoming statehood.

This started out great but I thought it lasted too long; the author tried to tie up all the loose ends in the story. I thought it made the story too pat.

According to Amazon, the second book in this series will be:

Big Sky (Timeless Western Collection Book 2) by Kimberly Krey, Annette Lyon, Cindy Roland Anderson
