I love Sarah McCarty and paranormal romance so I really wanted to love Caleb but just never got there. It starts out pretty good but then falls flat and I found myself skipping over parts just to get finished. The heroine is extremly annoying and I really didn't get the hero. I will read the next one in the series because I like the premise and am hoping it gets better.

It was an okay book. It was a little hard to follow at some points, jumping forward in time without tell you. I've read other books by same author and loved them. Story was okay. Romance scene were mediocre. Overall not a bad book just a little on the boring side. Series might pick up with 2nd one, who knows.

I wanted to enjoy this book. But I just couldn't handle the math. Caleb has been a vampire for 250 years. Yet he was human in the 1860's. First time I cam across the math error, I just ignored it. But by the 3rd time, forget it - this book was not that exciting and I would not characterize the sex scenes as "erotica". Too boring.
this was one of the worst books I have ever read. I don't usually read reviews by others, I want to find out on my own what the book is like. this one has changed my mind. I will read all posted reviews and decide. if you want a good vampire book, read the twilight series.

Good Lord this was a long drawn out book. Little to no excitement until the end and even then it only lasted two pages at best. Very predictable. Overall disappointing. I am very hopeful book 2 will be better or I'll abandon this series.

Good read, good enough that I plan to keep both books in the series and hope for more...
I read Jared first and although it is a direct sequel to this one order doesn't seem wildly important. Because I'd already read Jared some 'secrets' and 'questions' were already revealed but not enough to impact the reader's enjoyment.
Characters are a bit sketchy, especially the support ones. The heroine has more issues than a magazine rack, complains that our hero keeps trying to run her life and then does stupid things that prove she is not [at least not yet] capable of running her life in her new world.
Plot is a little jumpy, mostly fueled by the heroine's doing something stupid and landing herself in [more] trouble.
This book [like most McCarty's] also has a strong sense of honor, protection of women, family commitment, and integrity. Like Jared the feel of the setting is ambiguous - feels like a historical western but they have contemporary cars etc.
My biggest complaint? It is mentioned repeatedly he was an 1860's cowboy BUT it also mentioned that he is 250 years old AND vehicles are referred to as SUV's and things like iPods are mentioned - sorry folks, the math just doesn't add up! Sorry, it's the nitpicker in me.

Paranormal erotic romance by Sarah McCarty. Allie runs a bakery in a small town, and has it bad for rancher Caleb Johnson. He comes to her bakery daily, but never shows any interest in anything but her bear claws. Caleb is drawn to Allie, but doesn't want to expose her to his world. Then Allie is attacked by wolves one night, and Caleb has no choice. I like Allie's spunk, but didn't think much of Caleb or his brothers. The sex scenes are hot, but this author tends to write in too much dialogue during the "good parts." The motives of the bad guys isn't clear. Overall, I've read both much better, and much worse books. Fair. I'll probably try the second one.

What a disappointment! It was slow and the characters weren't interesting at all. There were so much real "drama" and emotions McCarty could have used like the fact that Allie would never see her family again or the fact that she might never have kids, losing her ability to eat and her bakery, the list goes on. But instead, McCarty decided to fabricate really dumb storylines.
The sex scenes were forced and nothing special. The dialogue is really boring and hard to follow.
I've read other stuff by her and they were much better. Not sure I will continue with this series.

Well my high hopes fell short on this one. Don't get me wrong I liked it but did not love it as I wanted to. This book gets off to an exciting start that sucks you in and make you keep reading but then it ends a few chappys in and gets confussing. It is almost as if there is another who took over writing...hmmm...the writing becomes disjointed and I found my self not being able to follow the conversations or what was going on stopping and going back a few paragraphs to reread cause I thought I missed something only I didn't. It was confussing and it drove me Nutz~! It felt as if a lot of the story was missing =(

Interesting ideas in the book but had many parts that I just skimmed. It was lacking something to keep me interested. I think to much dialogue between heroine and hero, I get it he is over protective and she is sassy.
This is the first of a new series and the author is setting the scene for future novels while trying to tell the story of Allie and Caleb. This is my first book by Sarah McCarty, so I didn't have any "expectations" when I started it. I didn't think it was boring, just a normal first series novel and look forward to reading about the other characters mentioned in the book.
I started the series by reading them right. This is the first. I enjoyed reading the book overall but following the chain of events was hard to do at best. I will read the second book and hope it is better just because I want to see all the stories about the four brothers and how they meet their mates. But I would not really recommend this series. One thing I really did not like about the book is there were hundreds of pages leading up to the climax and then the end happened in 3 or 4 pages. I give it two stars.
This book is excellent. starts out with action ends with it the series is a good 1 I would suggest this book to anyone & the lovemaking in these books are very hot & steamy.
I loved this book, and can't wait to get my hands on "Jared" though I wish it would be about Jace instead... maybe later. I have to agree with one other review that it was hard to fallow at times, I felt like I was involved in a different book but other then those few moments, I just loved it and will keep it for future reading!
I struggled to finish this book. It started out good when Allie "saved" Caleb and went downhill from there.
picked this up as a i needed something to read....wow! it was great. looking for the next installment - Jared....
This is a good book by Sarah McCarty. The story was slow to start and the plot was obvious, but definitely a good vampire novel.
This is the first of a new series and Caleb's story grabbed my attention and didnt let go. There are 4 brothers and each one has their own story but these brothers are triple-nature, thats what I would call it, they are actually, they are ranching cowboys, vampires and also they can turn into animals like wolves or birds. But they are in a feud with the neighboring clan for years and in this story Celeb as a wolf rescues Allie for the other clan and brings her onto his ranch but he never thought that he would fall for the woman or let their secret be known but Allie from the start intrigued him and he will do anything to keep his mate safe and alive until he accepts the gift of vampireism, but there will be a big surprise in store for Celeb and his brothers, not to mention for the rest of the ranch with the McClaren werewolf pack.
