I think this is one of the best in the Kinsey Millhone series. Good characters, gripping writing, clever ending. In later books/letters, I think Grafton loses some of the creativity and drive seen in the earlier books.
Helpful Score: 2
Good story that keeps you guessing. I liked this more than A or B.

Kinsey Millhone is hired to protect and young man who has someone trying to kill him. Unfortunately he has amnesia and doesn't know who or why.

A short, fun read. This book zooms by as a fascinating study of human nature and ends with a big, scary bang. A great cast of characters entertains and adds plenty of smoke and mirrors for readers to puzzle their way through.

Another good one by Grafton.

Interesting twist in this Kinsey Millhone mystery: about a third of the way through the book, Kinsey's client Bobby Callahan dies in an auto accident. Bobby originally hired Kinsey Millhone to investigate a near-fatal auto accident that he was involved in about six months previously. Bobby felt that someone staged the first car accident in an attempt to kill him. Convinced that Bobby's death might not be an accident, Kinsey continues the investigation to search for the truth about Bobby's death.
And is there something suspicious about Kinsey's landlord Henry's new lady friend Lila Sams?
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a good mystery and I also enjoyed the continuing development of Kinsey's character and her friends in santa Teresa.

It was a good book, however I was disappointed with the fact of how the Kinsey and Bobby both told everyone that he suspected someone tried to kill him AND that he hired Kinsey to find out. I felt that was a major no-no in that type of business. Even though I shook my head in disbelief each time the comment was made it was still a good read.
ONe of my favorie in Grafton's alphabet series!
Enjoyable series. Light read.
great story.
Read this a while ago but all of Sue Grafton's alphabet series are good mysteries so I would recommend them. I like Kinsey's spunk and how she goes about finding out the solution to the crime at hand. A good read.

I'm a bit late coming to read Sue Grafton's series, but I'm so glad I've started it. I think of the first three, this is my favorite. I love Kinsey Millhone's demeanor and her abbreviated lifestyle, with her small office, small car and her small home and a sleeping bag on the couch for a bed. Her investigative techniques are to be admired, and I wouldn't mind hanging out with her and eating in some of the places where she eats!
I really loved this book!

Another great Kinsey Malone book. Makes me wish I had read them in order.
I came late to this series but am enjoying it a great deal.

One of my favorite mystery writers. Very entertaining.
great series.
Not the best of the series, so far, but not bad. Just a fun read. And really, isn't that what it's all about?

Liked this one better, about as much as I did the first one...good story...
An enjoyable mystery series with a likable protagonist.
Fun read. Third in series.
This book is good. Kinsey is trying to find a killer and get to the truth of why he was killed.
the third in an alphabetized series. Started reading them now need to finish. EASY read!
Old book however I just read it for the first time and it is very good. Similar to Stephanie Plum and Janet Evanovich series.
Kinsey keps getting better and better
I like this author and the main character Kinsey Millhone.
Another excellent thriller in the Kinsey Millhone series. Grafton has taken on a new twist with this one and has Kinsey working to solve a mystery for a man who is dead.
Not the best in teh series so far, it is a quick read and has some twists and turns but it is a long shot that this would happen and the end wraps up in a neat bow in about five pages. That always irks me!
good read
C is for Corpse was another entertaining Sue Grafton novel. If you liked A and B you'll like this one as well! I didn't have the mystery figured out until the end along with Kinsey. The plot line isn't the most stimulating, but it's fluff entertainment which isn't a bad thing.
great fast read!
some more alphabet mystery
I thought this was an okay book. I had been wanting to get the entire series and start from 'A' but not so sure now. It started out somewhat interesting and then at the end it just fizzled out - didn't tell why the guy was a murderer

I love Kinsey Millhone. Smart, sassy, funny -- a real joy to read.
Good mystery, suspense novel. I enjoy this series...
I liked Kinsey more in this one than in the last two. Her edge seems to have softened a bit in this one and IMO it makes her a bit more likable. I enjoyed the puzzle a lot, it's been long enough since I read it first that I didn't remember it at all. I made a guess at the murderer and was right, but it was just a guess...we're not shown the motive until very late in the book. The subplot involving Henry is just flat-out funny. Since I was an adult during the 80s, the books don't seem dated to me at all. :-)
Another great book from Sue Grafton. Finished in one day.
Great series ..Been hooked since the first book came out.
This is the third book in Sue Grafton's alphabet detective series. Private Eye, Kinsey, is smart, creative, and a great character.
A Kinsey Milhone mystery, which pretty well sums it up. Her adventures are always entertaining, sometimes a little scary.
Sue Grafton is awesome!!
alphabet mysteries; early Grafton while she was still fleshing out main character...enjoyable read
Great series. Sue Grafton really gets you into the story.
Another great Kinsey Millhone mystery.
Kinsey Milhone is fun and entertaining. I like her voice and her style. Sticking with her!
The third in the Kinsey Millhone series.

Another wonderful Kinsey Millhone book. Kept me up all night to try and finish it.
Kinsey Millhone, single female, Private Investigator and all-round ordinary person is still recovering from the beating she received solving her last crime (told to us in B is for Burglar). This is later on in 1982 and as part of her recovery programme she is working out at the gym. That's where she sees Bobby Callahan. He is also recovering from a serious accident, and he looks bad. A few months before he lost control of his car and drove off a canyon road killing his friend and almost killing himself. He lost most of his memory in the accident, and as it returns in flashes, he realises that someone was trying to kill him - and could try again.
