I found this quite good for a first book. Some of the characters are a little sketchy but it is the beginning book of a series so... . I also like that it's about the Hopi Nation. Being a Hillerman and Thurlo fan of the Navajo Nation and both referring to the Hopi, I look forward to that development. I also liked that Laura is in her forties - I don't have to wait for her to 'grow up' like I had to with Ellah Clah. I plan on reading them all so I do recommend this one, especially if you are Hillerman and Thurlo fans like me.

This is the author's first novel and it was just okay. I couldn't relate well with the main character - too much left out of her past, I guess. Fairly violent too. Not my cup of tea.
