a tale about a variety of famous people who are basically dysfunctional. Many are motion picture stars. One is an Olympic swimmer. Kind of a supermarket newspaper in book form.

The book is set in Hollywood in 1938. The title refers to a huge swarm of Monarch butterflies that fly over the city. Rex Reed called it "one of the best books ever written about Hollywood" but be warned: its of the "magic realism" genre, as brilliant and as colorful as the butterflies themselves.
