This was, as usual, amazing! Loved the story, loved Harry's new partner, kept me reading into the night!
Excellent Harry Bosch outing -- so engrossing that I absolutely could not put this one down. Even though Harry still plays by his own rules, you always root for him because he wants to get it RIGHT not just DO it right. Loved it!
Usually I look forward to a Michael Connelly book but my oh my---don't waste your money or your credits on this one!
It is so slow and boring, I will give a book 50-100 pages to hold my interest but this one doesn't get past page 25 but I trudged onward.
The new partner 'Soto'? what a poor character to introduce, I got tired of her by page 25 too!
Just a huge disappointment!!

Man! Connelly has not lost a step. this was a real page turner. I literally could not put it down.
Working in the LAPD's Open-Unsolved Unit, Detective Harry Bosch and his new partner, Rookie Detective Lucia Soto, are given the case of Orlando Merced. Mr. Merced was shot by a stray bullet ten years ago while playing in a mariachi band. He has now succumbed to his injuries. The bullet that was lodged in his spine has now been removed during an autopsy. Bosch and Soto must take a look at this case to see if they can find the shooter.
This could just be my favorite Harry Bosch book. Not only do you get the Merced case, but Bosch and Soto are also working a twenty-year-old arson case that left nine children dead at a daycare. Both mysteries are riveting. The story didn't drag at all. I think what I liked the most is that Harry actually worked with Soto, instead of running off on his own as he tends to do. My rating: 5 Stars.

Good interesting story line. Very deft combining of more than one case. I don't read a lot of these the I did enjoy this one.
What a disappointment!
I didn't like the storyline nor Harry's new partner in this new Harry Bosch book. I thought it was boring, but I trudged on because, after all Michael Connelly wrote it and he IS one of my favorite authors. However, I gave it three stars only because I'll allow one stinker since maybe he was burnt out when he wrote this one!
