Absolutely fascinating book that explains exactly what happens in the healing process of a person's body when they are burned. Author Barbara Ravage spent countless hours over a year at Massachusetts General Hospital, watching burn nurses at work healing those whose lives have been forever changed by heat, flames, or chemicals. She also takes us through the history of treating burns, showing how, mostly through trial and error, doctors and nurses have learned what works and what doesn't in the many stages that burns go through when healing.
Yes, there have been more advances since this book was published in 2004, but it is still a brilliantly written history and explanation for the average layperson interested in medicine, burn treatment, and how a burn unit works.
