Just another real good Lucas Davenport, with a big chunk of flashback to his first case and entry into homicide detective status.

Book 21 in the Lucas Davenport series. It takes you back to an old murder case of 2 murdered young girls, fast forward to the present. This case was before Lucas became a detective and has haunted him. Great read!

I have read some other Lucas Davenport books, but when I saw this one gives some background on where he started and his relationship with Dell, I knew I wanted it to help round out the picture. This book goes back in time to Lucas' first case where two young girls are murdered, which was unsolved. Fast forward to the current time and those unsolved murders come back up when another murder is committed. The reader is led through the back story and how Lucas and Dell solve the cases. My only issue was with Weather, Lucas' wife. She's afraid Lucas will "murder" the killer once he's caught as revenge for not only killing the kids, but for murdering Cheryl, and Weather doesn't want that to happen, so instead of trusting Lucas, she arranges to meet with Dell and the other detectives, going behind Lucas' back, to see if they can keep an eye on him and make sure he doesn't cross that line. When Lucas finds out, he gets angry at Dell and the guys, but there is no mention of his anger towards Weather. Seriously? Not only does she not trust Lucas, the man she "loves" and has babies with, but she goes behind is back! So not cool and the fact that Lucas doesn't address it makes me angry. Anyway, it's a good crime story and I recommend it for those who like the Lucas Davenport series.
