This black-widow story fell somewhere in the middle for me. The crime(s) themselves were certainly interesting enough. Characterization of Betty Lou Beet's personality seemed on target. And I think many of us have known several women like Betty: charming, opportunistic, cold. Some of the obvious errors she made show that her success in life came mainly from luck and from moving fast and dodging challenges or observations from others who might have more pull than she had. It appears she became bolder and bolder as more of her crime got ignored or she wasn't called to account. A sad story, and told in kind of simplistic terms. There was quite a bit of repetition and the book felt stretched in spots.
