My mom turned me on to this writer, and I love the dry sense of humor, and they are always well written.

This is not the best of Block's Burglar series, but even the worst is worth reading. I enjoy the characters. The writing is good. The situations are sometimes a little far-fetched.

Even though Block has a plot formula he seems to adhere to, I really enjoy this series. And even though I have come to expect it, I always enjoy the surprises "Bernie" springs on everyone, especially those who think he came up empty-handed at the end.

Still, there are times I'm able to figure out who some of the characters really are before "Bernie" tells you. I did in this story too. All I will tell you is it wasn't the criminal. He surprised me there.

And it's gotten so I even like "Ray."
