Loved, loved, loved this one. Great fun. Socrates was wonderful along with Dove, Issac, Hud, Sam, Gabe, Emory, Elvia and of course, Benni. Was glad to see Rich appear again. Hope to see all again very soon. Loved some of the new characters, even if most only temporary. I loved the nutty cousins, they were great fun. Interesting mystery as well.

By the way, what an open door for a Secret Traveler Series, WOW!!! What a thought and with Earlene Fowlers sense of humor it could really be great fun. She has a unique way of putting words on paper.

This Benni is a bit different than most of the others. Not sure how I feel about Benni being attracted by another man.

Bennie Harper again becomes a detective while she helps friends who are trying to keep a ranch in the family. Combining a session for visitors with western culture and quilting brings interesting visitors to the ranch, including a "Secret Traveler" who can add positive publicity! However, when a dog finds a human bone on the property belonging to a murder victim, the police enter the picture, too. Trying to entertain the guests and show the happy side of life becomes a challenge to all who are helping the guests have a memorable visit so they will want to return!!

This is number 11 in her Benni Harper series. I really wish that I had started at the beginning but that is a downfall in reading, I guess. Great protagonist, Benni Harper, is helping out at the opening of Broken Dis (Broken Dishes - nickname) guest ranch. Human bones are found on a horse ride that brings Hud to investigate and her hubby, Gabe, distrusts immensely with his wife. Good character development and surprises in the story make it an enjoyable read.

Great series for quilters!!Publishers Weekly-"one of the best yet in this well-written cozy series, quilter Benni comes to the rescue of Shawna and Johnny Abbot, the new owners of the Broken DIS (aka the Broken Dishes) cattle ranch, now converted to a guest ranch. The opening of the retreat goes smoothly, until a makeshift grave is discovered during the ladies' first trail ride."

I'm sorry I started in the middle of this series, but I read it with pleasure anyway. It was so much fun that now I'm going to hunt up the other titles and start at the beginning.
BROKEN DISHES is a light who-dunnit with a plethora of suspects, odd red herrings, but no outright author fibs. Check yourself out halfway through and see if you've figured out who did what to whom, when, and where...
As with other titles in the series, 'Broken Dishes' is the name of a particular quilt pattern.

From back cover: Benni's friend and her husband have decided to open a dude ranch. And while their intentions may be good, business is not. Benni figures they could use some help. Her plan? To tempt vacationers with a western extravaganza. Soon Benni is cooking and quilting with a whole slew of western tenderfoots. But when a dog finds a human bone on the property and then Benni uncovers the remains of a murdered man, she must team up with her old nemesis, Detective Hudson, to unearth the truth behind a terrible crime.

This part of the Benni Harper mysteries. After Benni's friend open a dude ranch, a dog brings home a human bone. Benni teams up with her old nemesis, Detective Hudson, to find the truth about who murdered the man to whom the bone belonged. This is a cozy mystery.
