Mayor Geo. Cryer fronted for boodlers, thus the subtitle ;Murder, Corruption, and L.A.'s Scandalous Coming of Age.' The author harks back to Lincoln Steffen's in McCl;ure's and includes a 'Cast of Characters' ahead of the 32 chapters. LA was ruled by 'The System' during the growth surge of the 1920s until Fletcher Bowron became the reform mayor in 1938.
A quite readable book.
