Preschoolers interact with pictures to learn early vocabulary concepts such as categorization & classification; elementary students complete both oral & written activities; older students experience abstract vocabulary concepts thru guided discourse & verbal interaction. Materials were designed for simulataneous use by general education classroom teachers & special educators, primarily speech-language pathologists. Each activity contains an Evidence Base statement, a short statement indicating how research informs the practice described in the activity. Two prominent federal education laws require educators & specialists to use "scientifically based reacing research" (No Child Left Behind Act 2001) or "evidence-based interventions to the extent possible" (Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act 2004). The Evidence Base statement gives teachers & interventionists a shortcut to the research.
