From the back cover:

It leads from nowhere to nowhere, the mysterious world-spanning structure on which everyone seems to live. John Orr was rescued from the sea, devoid of personality or memory. In my own opinion: Chapters of lucidity punctuated with chapters of the surreal come together in a nice, coherent finish. This is one of those books that is best the first read. It loses a bit of the magic when you know what it's all about.

Promising setup but an incredible disappointing follow through that can be spotted from near the beginning of the novel.
