A great book from Garwood with all the romantic and witty charm she's known for. A nice fun and fast read.

One of my all-time favorite historical romances. Even if you are not a fan of romance novels, I bet you'll enjoy this one!

I'm probably the only person alive who just doesn't appreciate Garwood's writing style. I enjoyed the story somewhat, but I was constantly confused by the almost cartoony behavior, the conflicting ideas (was Jamie the most loved or the most abused daughter?) the mercurial changes in mood of both the hero and the heroine - and I felt this way about the other Garwood books I read. And yet reviews rave about this book and this author and it's on the All About Romance Top 100 books for 2007, so obviously most people not only "get it" but love it.

So maybe I'm not the person who should review this book, but in case there are others out there who don't find her writing style appealing, you are not alone. Or, as I said, maybe I am the only one. It's not a comforting thought. I gave the book 3 stars anyway because I didn't hate it, I just... don't like her writing style.

I owned a very beat up copy of this book, missing front and back cover, that I got from a garage sale over 10 years ago. It is not only one of my favorite Garwood books ever, but one of my favorite books ever, in general. Garwood does an incredible job with creating characters that are complex, lovable and flawed. She captures the beauty of Highland culture and history. It was one of the first romance novels I had ever read and got me hooked so completely.
