U.S. Marshall Zach McBride has endured a week of torture at the hands of a Mexican Drug Cartel called Los Zetas. Now they have captured journalist Natalie Benoit and put her in the cell next to Zach. Natalie is a voice in the darkness that gives him the strength to live another day. With her help, they break out of their prison and make a break of the U.S. Border. They must elude the drug cartel who wants them dead and cross the desert to safety.
I absolutely could not put this book down. It's the fifth book in Clare's I-Team series and the best so far. The story contains three of my favorite elements...a tortured hero, a couple on the run, and a hot romance. I also like that we have an usual setting at the U.S./Mexican border. And, we also see past characters play significant roles in this book which made the story even more interesting. My rating: 5 Stars.
Fantastic book! This was a page turner. Pamela Clare knows how to suck you into the story! The characters are strong, smart, and sexy, with a streak of humor. I can't wait to read Pamela's other books!!
I have read all of the books in the I-Team series. I loved the first one and loved this one as well. I would give both an A. The other three get B or B+. They were good, but this book was great!
Natalie Benoit is a gritty Southern Belle that is taken hostage, presumably for trying to save her colleague when their bus is ambushed by the cartel in Mexico. Zach McBride is already in the prison she ends up landing in. They work together, rely on each other, escape, plot, plan, doubt each other, hike across the desert, fall in love and return to civilization. And that would have made a great book, but that was only half way.
The second half of the book is about why Natalie was taken and who really is responsible. It is can't-put-the-book-down-delicious.
It is not over when the mystery is solved. Clare ties up Zach's personal angst in a way that makes the reader go ahhhhhh.
Great book. Highly recommended.
