Break into English Bk 4 Author:Jonathan Seath, Michael Carrier, Simon Haines This a four-level course taking students from the beginner stage in Book 1 through to Cambridge First Certificate examinations in Book 4. At each level the course comprises a student's book, a practice book, a teacher's book and cassettes. Throughout the "Break into English" course, the aim is to teach students to communicate effectively and to ... more »understand the structural basis of the language through realistic tasks. Each level of the course presents language in three phases: the presentation phase, in which new language is presented by means of dialogues and texts which are accompanied by comprehension questions, the practice phase, which contains short, controlled oral exercises or drills which are also on cassette and the transfer phase, which provides students with activities where they can apply the language to their own interests rather than being restricted to topics in the book. This forms the basic learning pattern, though at each stage additional material appropriate to the level of the learner is included. "Break into English 4" aims to recycle and consolidate structural and functional language presented in levels one to three of the course and introduces new syllabus items for upper-intermediate learners. It contains 15 units which are thematically based and comprises three learning cycles leading to an extended multi-skill "activity". There is authentic listening material to develop students' competence and provide a framework for vocabulary building. There is also a "sounds section" which focuses on stress, rhythm and intonation. Many of the exercises in the practice book help prepare students taking the Cambridge First Certificate Examination. This illustrated student's book contains some 100 hours' work comprising activities and tasks involving individual, pair and group work.« less
