This is an engaging book for students who would like to learn more about another culture (specifically Chinese). I really liked the explanation of the Buddha; bringing in the word karma showed that some Chinese words/ideas are already familiar in America.
The art added so much to this chapter book. Having been to Hong Kong and China, I thought the author and illustrator did a fine job of showing the most interesting sights and sounds of a very diverse population.
Spending some time on dragons was a smart way to entice boys to read. Girls are more likely to read just about anything but boys tend to be more selective. It was smart to have dragons showing up in different places.
The author offers an instructional video on Pinyin pronunciation and a lot more. It was delightful to find that the author's son's name is Brandon.
