Boy Meets Girl - Boy, Bk 2
Author: Meg Cabot
Meet Kate Mackenzie. She: —
  • works for the T.O.D. (short for Tyrannical Office Despot, also known as Amy Jenkins,Director of the Human Resources Division at the New York Journal)
  • is sleeping on the couch because her boyfriend of ten years refuses to commit
  • can't find an affordable studio apartment anywhere in New...  more »
  • thinks things can't get any worse.

They can. Because:

  • the T.O.D. is making her fire the most popular employee in the paper's senior staff dining room
  • that employee is now suing Kate for wrongful termination, and
  • now Kate has to give a deposition in front of Mitch Hertzog, the scion of one of Manhattan's wealthiest law families, who embraces everything Kate most despises ... but also happens to have a nice smile and a killer bod.

The last thing anybody -- least of all Kate Mackenzie -- expects to find in a legal arbitration is love. But that's the kind of thing that can happen when ... Boy Meets Girl.

At first I was very annoyed that the whole book is written as emails, notes, memorandums, etc. But I always finish a book no matter what. Once I started, I found it was very easy to read and you really got the whole story and it was really quite humorous. I enjoyed it.

Cute story of a romance between Kate Mackenzie an HR rep, and Mitchell Hertzog, a lawyer representing her company, told through emails, phone calls, and diary entries much like "The Boy Next Door" and "Every Boy Has One". Kate is made to fire a much loved pastry lady by her boss, the T.O.D (tyrannical office despot), because the pastry lady refused to serve the T.O.D's equally hated fiance. Kates protests fall on deaf ears. When the pastry lady comes back with a lawsuit Kate's job is in jeopardy and the company's lawyer - Michael Hertzog must step in.

This was very cute! The whole thing is written in various forms of modern correspondence -- instant messaging and email mostly, with some personal journal entries and the occasional note, memo, transcript, or store receipt to round things out. That did give me a slightly removed feeling at first so it took a little while to feel like I knew the characters. By the end I was flowing right along and wanted more! This is a very fast, easy, and fun read.

And I may have to give some of Ida's recipes a try! The gingersnaps are calling to me....

A fun easy-to-read book in the same style as The Boy Next Door -story told in form of emails, IM's, journal entries, etc- and some glimpses of characters from that book as well. I didn't enjoy it as much as the other "Boy" books... storyline just didn't grab my attention, or my heart. But, it's great for a summer read on the beach.

Love this book and the others in the boy series!!! The email style of writing is so great! You can read in short bursts if needed, but you won't want to. I found myself thinking I had only read a couple of pages but had actually read 20-30. Great writing style with a story that grabs you and won't let go.
