I don't normally go out of my way to read spy novels, but this series is fantastic. The movies deviate quite a bit from the novels, and (naturally!) the books are better.

I love the movies, but Ludlum is a bit of a tough read, to me. He can get a little repetitive and certain scenes just seem to hit a plateau for a while. But the things he comes up with for Bourne to do and the ways to get out of these things are just marvelous, and so we read it anyway. And so should you.

The movie is better than the book in this case. Ludlum tends to over-analyze the political situation, and the action loses focus due to it.

Good read. Great for plane trips, but I wouldn't read it multiple times, since the mystery & intrigue are the draw. This is actually the 2nd Bourne book. It is followed by the Bourne ultimatum. Once again- it is not like the movies since it was written during the Cold War era.

Every Ludlum book is engrossing and this is no exception. I had to read it in one sitting because I could not put it down.

Jason Bourne's second adventure. Better than the movie!

Whenever possible, I wait to read a book until I have seen the movie, but for some reason I didn't wait for this movie before I read the book. First thing I have to say is the movie is NOTHING like the book, so don't judge this book by it's movie. The book came before the movie, and one doesn't spoil you for the other. As good as the first book in the series, this gives you more information into Jason Bourne's history, and is packed with action and suspense. Bourne is back and leaving quite a wake.

In this sequel to The Bourne Identity , David Webb, still suffering flashbacks to his Jason Bourne persona, is forced to undertake a final, possibly fatal mission after his wife is kidnapped.

A great read, although nothing like the movie it keeps you burning through the pages. If you read this book and like it,I suggest the Parsifal Mosaic, also by Ludlum.

A mysterious and deadly assasin is impersonating Jason Bourne, hero of The Bourne Identity and one time hunter of the infamous terrorist 'the Jackal.' 'Bourne' is really David Webb, a man who has tried to live a normal life and put his past behind him. This is the second book in the Bourne trilogy but can be read and understood alone. It is as thrilling and action packed as the other two books and is a lot of fun- the plot moves a little faster than 'The Bourne Identity' which was a good book but sometimes seemed to drag.

Ludlum has never come up with a more head-spinning, spine-jolting, intricately mystifying, Armageddonish, in short Ludlumesque, thriller than this. A Peking leader of seemingly irreproachable reputation, secretly a Kuomintang fanatic, has masterminded a plot to take over Hong Kong via political assassination, the result of which would be civil war in China and possibly global disaster. His principal agent is an assassin-for-hire masquerading as the legendary "Jason Bourne," a one-time secret U.S. agent now, under his real name David Webb, struggling with the aid of a psychiatrist and his loving wife Marie to recover from amnesia. Only one man can destroy the conspiracy: Webb, who must be persuaded to re-assume his Bourne identity, track down the impostor and through him lay a trap for the vile Shengthe "persuasion" to be by way of his abducted wife. The action jolts from the back alleys of Hong Kong and Kowloon to a secret government complex in the Colorado mountains to the seats of power in Peking and even the interior of Mao's tomb. Every chapter ends with a cliff-hanger; the story brims with assassination, torture, hand-to-hand combat, sudden surprise and intrigue within intrigue. It's a sure-fire bestseller.

Real good. A little hard to believe a White Man can speak Chinese.

Washington, London, Peking-terror sweeps the globe. The Vice-Premier of the People's Republic has been brutally slain by a legendary assassin. Worl.d leaders, taipans, overlords of crime-all ask the same fearful questions: Why has Bourne come back? Who is paying him? Who is next on his death list?
Colorado-U.S. officials know a shocking truth: there is no Jason Bourne, there never was. The name weas created as a cover for David Webb on his search for the notorious killer Carlos. But now someone else has resurrected the name. And if he is not stopped, the Far East and the world will pay a devastating price.
Maine-Cruelly, irrevocably, David Webb is forced to act. Jason Bourne must loive again. Once again he must utilize his murderous skills. Because once again, like a nightmare relived, the woman he loves is suddenly torn from his life. To find her, to trap his own impostor, to uncover the explosive plan of a mastermind called the "client," Webb must launch a desperate odyssey into the espionage killing fields. But this time, to survive will not be enough. This time, Bourne must reign supreme.
