Joan Rivers has been around a long time--and with as big a mouth as she has that's not easy, but that's the public Joan Rivers. The private Joan Rivers has had just as many horrific ups and downs as the rest of us has--maybe more. If you don't like Joan Rivers for whatever reason, you won't like this book. But, if you enjoy her comedy--most of the time, you'll enjoy this book. And, if you are going through ^%$#@! READ THIS BOOK NOW.

Joan has been through a lot and gotten through it all somehow. In this book she tells us how she: survived the suicide of her husband, the estrangement of her daughter, all the deaths of her career from her foot-in-mouth faux pas, disasterous business mistakes (that literally cost her millions), and all the rest. She tells us she did it her way and it's all right for us to do it our way. But if we are climbing out of that deep abyss of self-loathing, tragedy, depression, whatever, it's all right to indulge a bit in self-pity, but not too much.

It was like listening to my grandmother but Joan kept her teeth in her mouth(Granny forgot to put her false teeth in a lot) and spoke impecably ( no heavy foreign accent or misconbobulated words in the middle of a sentence). She spoke English ALL the way through (although it would have been nice if she reached out and pinched my cheek once in a while or gave me a cookie from time to time). Joan was funnier than my grandmother, I think, but then I understood everything Joan said. Granny always told the punch line not in English (well, I think it was a different language. It was hard to understand her even with her teeth in place let alone with only a tongue that had no barriers or filters to catch at least some of the spit coming from the back of her throat with every other word. )
