I really liked this book, it flowed really well. I didn't want to put the book down no matter how tired I was since I read it mainly at night. The characters really draw you in on what is going on. I would like to read more about Mary Lisa Beverly and Jack Wolfe. Really good!

Sunday Cavendish is the woman everyone loves to hate. Independent, outspoken and brazenly sexy, she's clearly the star of the popular soap opera, Born To Be Wild, despite her character's machinations.

But Mary Lisa Beverly isn't Sunday - except in front of the cameras. So when a car practically runs her over in idyllic Malibu, she realizes she needs some time off to escape. Returning home to Oregon, quickly reminds her why she left three years ago. Her ex-fiancé and the sister she found in bed with him are now married, her mother barely tolerates her, and she can't remember the last time she had a date. Her father alone is her refuge, that is, until she meets someone off-limits.

When the attacks on her life continue after her return to LaLaLand, Mary Lisa turns to her friends and neighbors, her true family, for support. But she doesn't expect to turn to the last man she ever expected to show up on her doorstep. With the threat of danger lurking in every shadow, Mary Lisa must learn to trust her hometown adversary with her life and her heart.

Not going to lie, I barely read half of this one. I just could not get into it, mostly due to story inconsistencies and bad writing. Not what I've come to expect from Coulter, I'm assuming this is just a fluke.

Maybe if I had kept going it would have been worth it, and maybe someone else will like it more!

The story opens at the Daytime Emmys where Mary Lisa Beverly who is the lead actress on the soap "Born to Be Wild" is waiting to hear who has won Best Actress. She is sure it isn't her as she has won it the two previous years but, of course, she wins. She is so excited and in shock!
The next chapter has Mary Lisa in disguise in Malibu where she lives in the Colony - a secure and gated community -- out to shop and stroll. Mary Lisa is also intent on avoiding a paparazzi named Poker Hodges who she had to get a restraining order against. She is almost home and crossing a road when a dark sedan comes right at her and despite her best efforts she is struck on her hip and knocked down.
Mary Lisa's friends are very worried about her. Lou Lou is quick at her side along with an old surfer guy named Carlo. Detective Daniel Vasquez who gets the case gets a long list of associates and friends and coworkers from Mary Lisa to investigate -- although he is somewhat distracted by an attraction to her friend Lou Lou. After finishing her scenes for the week on her soap, Mary Lisa decides to visit home where she hasn't been for 3 years. Her hometown is Goddard Bay, Oregon where she is close to her dad but not close to her mom or sisters. Her one sister Monica she found in bed with her at-the-time fiance, Mark. Monica married Mark and is now running for the State Senate in Oregon. Her younger sister Kelly is jealous of her and her mom, Kathleen, seems to resent her.
Just as Mary Lisa arrives in town a man is killed and his wife, father-in-law and mother-in-law are among the suspects. His mother-in-law is bests friends with Mary Lisa's mother. To top it off the Chief of Police in Goddard, Jack Wolf, put Mary Lisa in jail overnight the last time she was in town!!

Just published (for the first time) in 2006-this book is a departure from her FBI stories, which I stopped reading. This is a mystery, but very light hearted and funny. Great chemistry during the love scenes, which also somehow manage to be funny. I really liked this book

Stories within stories is this fun Romance. A soap opera star is stalked by both a killer and a photo happy jerk. She is helped by tons of zany friends, and THREE different hunks. She has a nasty mother who could be a stepmother in Cinderella, and two off the wall sisters--and this is just a few of the plots within the book.

Very good mix of a soap star's life and her real life. She is being perusde by a killer, returns home to Goddard Bay where she runs into a family right off a soap set. She also meets up the Chief of Police who put her in jail three years earlier, who does not like her very well. The story line is very interesting.

This one is lots of fun. Any fans of soap operas should take note; there's a lot of fascinating history here along with a somewhat twisty plot and definitely twisted relatives! After reading this one, we'll never complain about our own dysfunctional families again.

From back cover: Get yourself ready for Mary Lisa Beverly--a soap-opera phenom who's just won her third Daytime Emmy for her role as Sunday Cavendish on Born to Be Wild. She's fun and lovable and has lots of crazy friends, most of whom hang out at her house in the Colony, the famous gated community in Malibu.
Unfortunately, there is one bad thing to poleax her champagne life--someone is trying to kill her.
You'll meet Mary Lisa's family in Goddard Bay, Oregon. She's blessed with her father, cursed with her mother, and betwixt and between with her two nutzoid sisters.
And how about guys? There aren't any hotties in L.A. of interest to Mary Lisa, but in Goddard Bay--there are District Attorney John Goddard and Chief of Police Jack Wolf. And guess what? Even in the boondocks, bad stuff can happen.
Mary Lisa's best friends, Lou Lou Bollinger and Elizabeth Fargas, become embroiled in the baffling attempts on Mary Lisa's life in L.A., with unexpected results.

Mary Lisa is a soap opera superstar who isn't your typical diva. She's fun and loveable. But she has one problem, she's being stalked and this takes her home to her highly dysfunctional family in Goddard Bay. Her family, two sisters, an antagonistic mother, and a handsome, caring father are a soap opera unto themselves. A murder in the hometown takes her mind off her stalker and puts her in the path of the handsome police chief, Jack Wolfe.

Its a fun summer read. I enjoyed the characters and wish they would be back in more books.

Mary Lisa has a stalker, but no one can come up with any legitimate ideas. None of her friends can imagine someone trying to harm her and the police are out of leads.
During one of her visits to her hometown and less-than-welcoming family, she and her friends manage to step smack-down in the middle of a murder investigation.
The reason for the switches between real-life and the story on Born to be Wild is never really clear, but the factoids at the beginning of each chapter are interesting.
Lots of action, romance and interesting people make this an amusing way to spend a couple of hours.

"Born To Be Wild," a popular soap opera, stars Mary Lisa Beverly as bad girl Sunday Cavendish. When Mary Lisa, who is really a perfectly nice person, is nearly run down by a car, she quickly realizes the incident was a murder attempt. During the ensuing investigation, Mary Lisa falls in love, nearly dies, wisecracks, finds a corpse or two, and staves off an obnoxious paparazzo. Susanna Burney has an appropriate vocal personality for such a light romance/mystery. She sounds likable, good humored, and smart. Largely stinting the laugh lines, she treats the novel's other elements with a bit too much understatement. Her infrequent bursts of sparkle add brief gusts of freshness. Would that there were more of them!

A soap-opera phenom, Mary Lisa Beverly is fun and lovable except to the person trying to kill her. There aren't any hotties in LA of interest, but in Goddard Bay, OR - her hometown - are John Goddard and Jack Wolf and even in the boondocks- bad stuff happens. Embroiled in the baffling attempts on Mary Lisa's life, is alot of laughter and fun --- and ---unexpected results.
