A very hard book to get into. In the beginning, Nykyrian is a hard-ass and a nasty brutal person. Until he meets Kiara Zamir and starts to develop feelings for her (heck feelings at all), he is a difficult person to like. Once you start to learn about his background, you understand where he is coming from and feel bad for him and realize why he is the way he is. Besides the savagery and brutality of the life of an assassin, the book is a typical romance. Trash boy falls for princess, princess falls for boy, both knowing it can never be. Girl is repeatedly in trouble as everyone is trying to kill her. Boy rescues her again and again. Then boy gets in trouble and girl rescues him. They live happily ever after. Well not quite that pat but you get the idea.

The version is read is the newest publication with 533 pages not the 289 as listed by goodreads. So there was lots and lots of time for both romance and fighting. I did enjoy this book and eventually really liked Nykyrian. Though I did find fault with the many typos in the book. (Mine was a book club edition so not sure who is at fault). My favorite typo is: Two red targeting lasers hovered without shaking - one between his eyes and one over his grain. Kinda tough to point at his grain! Gotta love it.

Syn's book is next and he has it as hard or harder than Nykyrian so it should be interesting and tear-jerking at the same time.
