Helpful Score: 1
It's written from a first person perspective, so the slang style of speech it's written in can take some getting used to. It's a really interesting story though.
i liked it ....it was really sad though!
This book is a delacasy... it has a diamond in the rough beauty to it. It tells Lasheya's story so richly that you will find yourself slipping into her world. You see her grow up and mature and truely find herself. I am a BIG Han Nolan fan, and this is BY FAR my favorite Han Nolan work! Its so good, I've read it twice! And I still won't give it up because I now I'll probably want to read it again! Its one of those that you will need to read over and over, the magnitude of this wonderful story just can't sink in with just one read!
Back of Book-
Janie...Leshaya...whatever shes called...she's a survivor. Rescued from the brink of death, this child of a heroin addict has seen it all:revolving foster homes, physical abuse, an unwanted pregancy. Now her childhood is coming to a end, and she is determined to make a life for herself by doing the only think that makes her feel whole...singing. Can this girl, born to a life hardship, find the strength and courage to break away from her past and become the legend she is meant to be?

I have not read this book-got it in a box of books at a yard sale.
