This book has two main story lines. The first is set in Guernsey, late 1985, and is narrated by the teenaged Catherine Rozier. One of Cathy's friends has just died by falling from one of the island's cliffs, and Cathy thinks she is responsible. The second story line consists of letters from Cathy's Uncle Charlie, sho was active in the resistance during the German occupation of the island. The main theme of the book is how stories change each time they are retold. Really liked the book and the writing.

This book reminded me of "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society", as both books were set on the Channel Island of Guernsey, and both dealt with the german occupation. "The Book of Lies" was much darker than the GLPPPS book, though. Reading this book showed a lot more of the horrors of the German occupation of Guernsey.
