This was quite an unusual book; the author has a style of writing which I did not always enjoy. However, the story was compelling and held my interest. The ending is surprising and leaves you having to decide for yourself where the truth lies...

This book is a book about a book....and so much more. I loved the building of the friendship between the two women, the ups and the downs of friendship and the life that gets in the way. I really enjoyed the honesty of this book.I encourage anyone to read it that has a friend they hold dear.
It takes a minute to weave in and out of the "main" story and the "story" that is being read. I really enjoyed it.
It opened like loose spaghetti, just didn't seem to hang together and I was thinking of putting it down..then somewhere along the line early in the book I 'got it' and what it was about. A really tightly-written book about the creation and keeping of lifetime friendship and love. The characters were all great, the plot within a plot terrific and interesting, well paced, and it wrapped up beautifully in the end.
Perhaps one of the difficult and boring books I've ever read. Really can't recommend it to anyone unless you're interested in the history of trolley cars.
Personally, I did not care for this book. However, we all have different tastes in reading.
NYT notable book. WSJ called it "an ambitious and original novel." I agree.
