Well, according to this, 18 of our 43 presidents were and are bastards. In fact, if you start the Democratic party with Van Buren, every Democratic president except those named Franklin or James were bastards (it was written too early to consider Barack Obama). It was a little unfair to James Buchanan, because most of the story was about him allegedly being gay, which for an unmarried man, does not qualify as being a bastard. Only 5 were women (one first lady, you can guess who); geographically, 15 were associated with NY, the next nearest state is Texas with 7 (all since LBJ was president), Pennsylvania, Virginia and Connecticut with 6 each.
