For me, this is one of the most charming books in Tomie dePaola's vast collection of wonderful works. Younger children can enjoy the story about the adventures of a beloved cat uncle and his rodent companion. Older children will like the tale of a "contest" between two artists with differing styles. And best of all, adults who are reading this will delight in the historical references to real-life characters and dePaola's deft depiction of "crazy" Pablo's and "humdrum" Henri's paintings. (Note: the reprint of this book is entitled "Mr. Satie and the Great Art Contest.")
