In Bones Are Forever, Kathy Reichs gives our favorite forensic anthropologist, Temperance Brennan, a tour of the great country of Canada. Kicking off with the suspicion and subsequent discovery of a dead newborn in Montreal, to Edmonton, and wrapping up in the tundra outside of Yellowknife, we follow a trail of deceased newborns and get enmeshed in a criminal turf war.
I DID enjoy the book, but I had some issues with it. As usual, Reich's habit of ending a chapter with a cliffhanger, then resolving it anticlimactically on the next page often grated on me. Secondly, in this book, Dr. Brennan got very little opportunity to demonstrate her medical talents and after all, that IS what makes this character unique among police procedural detectives! In addition, the justification to fly the good doctor around Canada felt incredibly thin and implausible I cannot believe that the RCMP has the budget and even if so, the auditing to permit them to arbitrarily hire and fly 2 investigators around on the off chance that there might be something that they can contribute.
Put those annoyances aside, and you still have a pretty good book.
