Futuristic/Dystopian/Paranormal novel by Samantha Shannon, and first in series. This story takes place in the London of the future. The Monarchy is no more. Any citizen with paranormal/clairvoyant gifts are considered criminals and imprisoned, never to be seen again. The country is ruled by The Scion which is group rounding up supernaturals.

Paige Mahoney is a Dream Walker, who is part of the Supernatural Underground. One fateful night Paige is caught, imprisoned and sent to the place where all the other clairvoyants are sent. Essentially, enslaved by another race of people.

Paige is street-smart, intelligent, defiant, and doesn't accept slavery easily. Her Keeper is the consort for the Sovereign.

This book has a good ploy, and is well-written. Paige is a heroine we can cheer on. My complaint is that the world-building is cumbersome and confusing. There are so many different terms to remember regarding the different types of supernatural gifts people have, and lots of different lingo for other terms. But, once you get past that, the story is very compelling. The cliff-hanger is awesome! Problem is, probably by the time the next installment comes out, I'll have forgotten all of the lingo!
