This was not a good book to try to get acquainted with Doc Ford, I've tried before and didn't make it through and this one is just terrible, I probably won't pursue anymore Doc Ford books. Only good thing--I got it from the library and can return it so it didn't cost me anything but gas
This was a typical Doc Ford novel. Doc is drawn into someone else's problem in this case, a Native American from Montana who is searching for tribal relics that were sold in Florida. (Personally, I prefer the novels where he is assisting a friend, rather than suddenly jumping to the aid of a total stranger.) We dig into the fossil trade in the state of Florida, as well as a little discussion of the phosphate industry having worked in that business for a short time many years ago, , I realize how the two seemingly unrelated things are linked and, surprisingly, captive elephants and the circus.
This provides a typically well-paced story, with some mystery and some action, as well as a little interpersonal drama. It also includes one of my pet peeves with Randy Wayne White's writing the constant referral to a nameless someone by a droningly repetitive moniker. In this case, Doc was chased by "my adversaries" would you PLEASE consider using an online thesaurus, Mr. White??
Overall, a good book.
